Fills connected canals with water to irrigate soil.

Water Pump is an important building which can fill canals connected to it with water, thus allowing to irrigate the dry soil, making it fertile. It requires Land of Lions DLC icon Land of Lions DLC and can be built only in Enbesa on top of a river slot. While the water pump is labeled as a production building in the game, it does not produce anything and requires no workforce, and items which are supposed to affect production buildings have no effect on water pumps.

Irrigation[]

For more information, see: Irrigation.

In Enbesa most of the land is dry and unsuitable for the cultivation of crops. Any crop fields placed on dry soil do not increase the productivity of their farm and therefore crop farms can achieve their full productivity only when all their fields are placed on irrigated soil. Animal farms are productive even with the fields placed in dry areas but placing them on irrigated soil increases the productivity of each field, for up to +100% productivity if all modules are placed on irrigated soil. Such soil, visible as green parts of the land, is generally available only in small areas near rivers and lakes. Creating more room for farmland is possible via water pumps and canals, which form an irrigation system, which utilises water from rivers to turn the dry land into irrigated soil.

Water pumps use water from the rivers and pump it into canals connected to the building. Each pump has two places where canals can be connected to it - there is one spot on both sides of the river. Canals have to start on a tile adjacent to one of these spots, which are highlighted in white while placing canals. Water pumps have limited irrigation capacity of 250 - a single pump can provide water only to up to 250 tiles of canals. If multiple water pumps are connected to each other via canals, their irrigation capacities become combined, allowing to build longer canal sections than a single pump could support. Each canal filled with water irrigates the soil in a 9x9 square area centered on the canal tile - in other words a canal tile affects 4 tiles of soil in every direction from the canal.

The number of river slots on an island is limited, therefore the number of water pumps which can be built on each island is also limited. Since river slots are also required to place clay collectors and paper mills, it is important to carefully manage and prioritise the use of river slots.
