Only useful if equipped with items. Attach items here to provide bonuses to production.

Trade Union is an Administration Building which provides bonuses to other production-focused buildings within its radius, if equipped with appropriate items. It can be built in the Old World (and Cape Trelawney), the New World and Enbesa. It does not need any road connection.

Functionality[]

Trade union can affect only those buildings which are located within its radius, no road connection between the buildings is required. The radiuses of different trade unions cannot overlap; however, they can overlap with the radiuses of other types of administration buildings. This means that each building can be affected by only one trade union at once (with the exception of clipping).

While placing a trade union or when having it selected once it is placed, its radius is indicated by a blue circle surrounding it. The buildings which are within its radius and can be affected by the union have the area underneath them highlighted in blue. Additionally, when a building is currently affected by the items equipped in the selected union, the building itself is also highlighted. When constructing a building which can be affected by a trade union, the area underneath the union is highlighted if the constructed building would be placed within the union's range.

Trade union on its own cannot have any effect on surrounding buildings without having any items equipped inside it. Only the items which are equippable in trade unions can be used and only up to three items can be equipped at the same time (up to four with Union Subsidies Act palace policy). These items can increase efficiency and change functionality of different production-focused buildings, for example by increasing productivity, lowering workforce requirements, changing input goods or workforce used, adding extra goods etc. The list of possible effects of trade union items and their explanation can be found on a separate page.

Items can be equipped in two ways:

  • Selecting a trade union, clicking on one of the item slots and then choosing desired item.
  • Dragging desired item onto a trade union from the item storage menu of the island's trading post or warehouses, or from ships which are close enough to the island's trading post or piers.

Items can be unequipped by selecting a trade union and then right-clicking on an item in its item slot. The removed item is transferred back to the island's item storage. Some items cannot provide any bonuses by just being equipped in an item slot - these items also have to be activated by left-clicking on them in the union's menu.

Interaction with the palace[]

The Palace Palace or Local Department Local Department can interact with the trade unions via the Department of Labour and its policies. To have an impact on a trade union or the buildings in its radius, the union needs to be connected to the palace or the local department via roads and needs to be within their street range. The buildings within the union's radius still do not require any road connection to the union or the palace to benefit from the effects of the items or the policies.
