Railway plays an important role in the game, it connects Oil Harbour with Oil Refineries, Oil Power Plants, and Fuel Stations. Trains travel across railway transporting oil from refineries to oil harbour, and from oil harbour to oil power plants and to fuel stations. For the first time railway is unlocked after reaching 1 Engineers in Old World. If engineers have been reached, then railway is also available in New World upon reaching 1 Obreros or in Enbesa upon reaching 600 Elders. There is no railway in The Arctic.
Railway costs 50 , 0.25 tons of timber and 0.25 tons of steel beams per tile ( wanza timber instead of timber in case of Enbesa). The final cost is rounded up, 1 tile of railway costs 50 , 1 ton of timber and 1 ton of steel beams, while 4 tiles of railway cost 200 , 1 ton of timber and 1 ton of steel beams. In order to fully utilise every ton of timber and steel beams, at one time it is best to place railway on only such a number of tiles which is a multiple of 4.
Bridges[]
You can cross rivers with railway by building bridges. To construct a bridge, the starting tile of your railway should be on one side of the river and the ending tile on the other side of the river. The game will attempt to establish a railway with bridge over a distance as short as possible between those two tiles. In rare situations it may turn out that the railway and the bridge cannot be placed in a way that you expected. In that case, right-click to cancel planning the railway and try again, changing the starting and end tiles to try to build a bridge in a slightly different location or direction. Two bridges cannot be directly next to each other, there has to be at least one tile wide space between bridges which go in the same direction.
Bridges cost additional resources besides regular costs of the railway, the cost of a bridge is independent from its length, it costs 5000 and 20 tons of steel beams.
Crossing roads[]
For more information about roads, see: Roads
Railway can also cross roads without any impact on trains movement or on the connections between buildings. Railway built across the roads does not cost any additional resources. Rails can be crossed not only by single one tile wide roads but also by two tile wide roads. Railway has to be only one or two tiles wide to be able to allow the roads to cross the rails.
