Monuments are one of the categories of buildings in Anno 1800. Monuments are distinct from other buildings because they cannot be built instantly. Instead, after their foundations are placed, they have to be constructed in several stages, each of the phases has specific unlock conditions and requires workforce, resources and sometimes also access to electricity. Each monument has a different function and in case of almost all monuments there cannot be more than one of the same monument on an island.
Construction[]
First step of constructing most monuments is similar to constructing all buildings - the monument has to be selected from the construction menu and its foundations placed in the game world. Three monuments have predefined locations and therefore do not need to be placed.
After placing the foundations, each monument has to be constructed in several phases. During construction phases, an unfinished monument functions a bit like a production building - it requires resources, it has certain road range and requires a warehouse in its range where carts would deliver the resources from, needs sufficient workforce. The difference is that no goods are produced, instead, consumed resources contribute to the completion of the monument; and more than one ton of each resource is consumed per cycle time (always 1 minute in case of monuments), proportionally to the total amount of resources needed for the whole phase. Moreover, like in shipyards, the workforce can be mobilised to focus on the monument at the cost of lowering productivity of the production buildings where the same type of workforce is employed.
List of monuments[]
In the base game there are only three monuments available, two of which are available only in campaign. Each of the following DLCs adds one more monument to the game: The Passage DLC, Land of Lions DLC, Tourist Season DLC, The High Life DLC, Empire of the Skies DLC.
