Flagship is a sailing ship, that is useful in any situation. Depending on the conditions set when starting their match, the player will start with a Flagship or be able to buy one later from Sir Archibald Blake. In the event that the player's Flagship is destroyed, they can also buy a new one for 5000 Credits and 0 Influence, either from Sir Archibald Blake or from Isabel Sarmento, if they have met her at that point.

The Flagship is deceptively powerful, it can move as fast as a frigate with the wind, or move at a respectable pace against it. With a reasonably sized hold to boot, the Flagship will never stop being useful. It excels at handling quests as a result of its all-around good characteristics, though its usefulness in Expeditions drops off fairly quickly.

Variants[]

Users that pre-ordered any version of the Anno 1800 game have the option to choose a reskin of the Flagship. This is purely cosmetic and its stats are no different from the classic version.

Trivia[]

In the days before wireless radio, ships at sea communicated primarily via systems of colored flags - raising certain flags could spell out words or send prearranged messages. For warships, coordination of the fleet was the job of the admiral, and his ship would be designated the flagship, meaning it carried his flag and was the one sending out orders via signal flags.

Early steam engines were considered unreliable for oceanic travel, and as such throughout most of the 1800s ships would carry a combination of steam engines and sails. This also allowed them to go faster as early steam engines were relatively slow. For instance, HMS Warrior, the world's first all-iron warship, had a top speed of 13 knots under pure sail and 14 knots on pure steam, but could reach 17.5 knots when using both together - as fast as the clipper ship Cutty Sark.
