ThePassage

The Passage is the fourth Anno 1800 DLC and was released on December 10th, 2019. It is the third DLC of the Season 1 Pass. It adds a new region The Arctic, which consists of multiple islands with cold climate. The gameplay is focused on heating, which is necessary to make production buildings operational and to ensure your inhabitants are warm enough to not get sick and die from low temperatures. The Arctic is a home for two new population tiers: Explorers Explorers and Technicians Technicians. Each tier brings new needs, buildings and production chains. A new monument, the Airship Hangar, allows to construct airships that can be used to safely transport cargo across your company. The Arctic is also a source of gold ore, furs and gas, the latter can be used in gas-fired power plants in Old World, which do not require any railway connection.

Content of the DLC[]

The main addition of The Passage DLC is a new region, The Arctic, unlocked after completing an expedition available once you have 1 Engineers Engineers. The Arctic consists of several islands, some of them represent a mix between a taiga and tundra, while some islands are actually plateaus on top of high glaciers. To make the cold climate bearable, it is necessary to use the heating system, placing residences and production buildings in range of heaters, which require a steady supply of coal.

Population of The Arctic is divided into two tiers: explorers and technicians. Both include new buildings, goods, production chains and needs. Arctic population, in opposite to all other types of population, does not have any happiness rating. Instead, their well-being depends on their temperature – how warm or how cold is the environment they live in. Heaters and providing population with specific goods can increase the temperature, which reduces the chances of residents becoming sick.

The second tier, technicians, allows to build monumental airship hangars on islands in The Arctic. The hangars can be used to construct airships, flying trade ships, which can't be endangered by any existing ships or defences, they can travel above islands and load/unload goods at the same time as other ships. Using airships it is possible to settle on glaciers, where gas can be extracted to be used in Old World gas-fired power plants, which do not require railway connection. Additionally, The Arctic can be a source of furs and gold ore, which production is more efficient there than in Old or New World.

The DLC includes a storyline, during which you are helping Lady Jane Faithful to find her lost husband, who travelled to the Arctic in order to find the eponymous Passage. This is available only in single-player campaign or sandbox, not available in multiplayer. The story leads you through developing your Arctic settlement and constructing your first airship to learning about what happened to the expedition's crew. After completing the story you can use airships to find lost expedition's cargo in the northern area of the region, where the visibility is reduced by a massive blizzard. This way you can find valuable items or precious scrap, which you can transmute into special items with the help from an eccentric inventor, Old Nate.

Overall the DLC adds the following elements:
