Marketplace is a Public Service building, which fulfills the basic need for residences of six different population tiers: Farmers and Workers in the Old World (and Cape Trelawney), Jornaleros and Obreros in the New World, Shepherds and Elders in Enbesa.
Marketplace is not necessary for any other population tiers, it is also irrelevant regarding the supply of any other needs. Goods are provided to all residences connected to the trading post, regardless of whether the residences have access to a marketplace or not. It also means that as long as other needs are unlocked and provided, marketplaces are not required to maintain the residences and prevent them from turning into ruins.
Need fulfilment[]
Like every public building the marketplace can affect only those buildings which are connected to it by roads and are placed within its range. The strength of its effects is based on the street distance between the affected building and the marketplace. In the Old World and the New World its full range (dark green) is 33 tiles for dirt roads and 49 for paved streets; its max range (light green) is 68 tiles for dirt roads and 101 for paved streets. In Enbesa its full range is 23 tiles for desert roads and 34 for paved streets; its max range is 48 tiles for desert roads and 71 for paved streets.
When Farmer Residences, Worker Residences, Jornalero Residences or Obrero Residences are in the full range of the marketplace, each of them gains 5 inhabitants. When Shepherd Residences or Elder Residences are in the full range of the marketplace, each of them gains 3 inhabitants. When residences are outside of the full range but inside the max range they gain less inhabitants based on the street distance from the marketplace. Fulfilling the market need does not increase the income generated by the residences.
Needs overview[]
Marketplaces provide the overview of all the population's goods-based needs. The marketplace's menu contains buttons that allow to switch between every population tier to see the needs only for one tier, or for several tiers at once. Needs bars indicate how well certain needs are satisfied. Hovering over a need provides information on how many tons of corresponding good there are in the storage of the island.
