Alonso Graves is one of the three expanding, AI controlled characters of "Expert" difficuly, alongside Admiral Vicente Silva and Lady Margaret Hunt.

Background[]

Easily one of the weirder and more comical rivals in Anno 1800, Alonso leads an organization that's more akin to an eccentric Death Cult than a venturing capitalist company.

His quests involve delivering the still-beating hearts of his enemies to the lucky lady he's trying to woo, or grinding glass into his men's goulash to improve their diet. Apparently you also wouldn't want to see him make use of a pineapple or an Eider duck feather. The sheer conviction with which he indulges in his weird behavior, also leaves little doubt as to how seriously he takes his delusions.

Alonso enjoys chaos - including war and city incidents - and seems to be expecting the coming of its god. When your relationship with him decreases he comments you're just another boring mortal. Succeed in flattering him and he'll associate you with his inscrutable omens and sees in you a fellow immortal or even his savior.

His Spanish accent and his biographical references to an Empire, mark him as hailing from La Corona - the same as his fellow countryman, Vicente Silva.

Strategy[]

Alonso appears the weakest of the three hardest A.I. players, being slow to develop. The danger posed by Alonso lies instead, in his unpredictability. Even with good military strength and relationships, Alonso is prone to declare war when the fancy strikes him, just for kicks. At that point you're stuck with perhaps the most stubbornly bloodthirsty opponent in the game, blindly and unpredictably attacking your trade routes and ports regardless of the situation or the costs.

Apart from the varying results from "Flattering", "Insulting" and "Offering Gifts" depending on their likeliness, the relationship with Alonso can be affected with the following:
