Advanced Coffee Roaster is a Production Building which turns
Malt into
Coffee. It is available in
Land of Lions DLC and can be built only in the Old World (and Cape Trelawney), it requires
Electricity to operate. Constructing every advanced coffee roaster requires not only appropriate construction materials, but also an Old World Coffee Production permit that can be acquired via research. Demolishing the roaster refunds the permit, regardless of the difficulty setting for the construction cost refund.
Productivity[]
It takes 30 seconds to produce 1 ton of coffee from 1 ton of malt so the production rate is 2 tons of coffee per minute. Productivity can be changed by adjusting working conditions and using items. As electricity is required to operate, this factory produces with 200% productivity by default.
Strategy[]
The Advanced Coffee Roaster produces coffee at the same rate as a traditional New World Coffee Roaster; it also requires electricity to function, an additional building in its production chain (a Malthouse) and thus a larger workforce cost, and of course, the significant investment required to unlock it in the first place. Traditional coffee production chains are much more scalable; further, if New World Rising is installed, the ability to electrify Coffee Roasters allows them to double the production of the Advanced model.
However, the Advanced Coffee Roaster provides massive simplification of logistics. Being able to be placed in the Old World removes the need to ship its product across zones, and thus the time lag inherent to shipping; in many cases, the product can ship straight out of the building to the population that demands it. The Advanced Coffee Roaster is also more space-effective on the whole; the Grain Farms and Malthouse combine for a fractionally smaller footprint than their Coffee Plantation counterparts, and can also be built on Old World islands which are typically larger and more forgiving on space than those in the New World. Grain fertility is also typically more common than Coffee, and in less competition with other fertilities compared to the New World islands.
Like its fellows the Advanced Cotton Mill and Advanced Rum Distillery, the Advanced Coffee Roaster is unlikely to fully replace its New World counterparts. However, it can significantly improve the stability of supply for one of the most in-demand goods in Anno 1800.
